You’ll only start to take giant steps toward success once you fully understand this one simple fact.
Not a single person in this world is better than you.
“I could never talk to her! She’s so intimidating. She would never even listen to me anyway.”
That sentence depicts several factors that cause most people to fail, self-sabotage and prevent any chance they may have at being successful in life.
Listen, I understand that you may not be the type of person who enjoys approaching people and introducing yourself, and that’s fine. In fact, in this post, I’m not going to stand on my soap-box and exclaim that in order for you to be successful, you have to be insanely outgoing and charismatic. We all understand that some people are simply more comfortable with impromptu face-to-face communication than others. There are those select few who can work a crowd, make people laugh and engage everyone in the room while looking at them directly in the eye without blinking.
That’s a great set of skills for one to have, and yes it does increase the volume of your message, but it is NOT an essential ingredient in the recipe for success.
Let’s break down the quoted sentence above.
“I could never talk to her!” – Why? People are people. I know it sounds cliché, but we all put our pants on one leg at a time. Your ideas and visions are just as important as their own. Never look at someone as being better or superior to yourself. Feeling that way will always impede your personal and professional progress, it will never make things better or prevent you from making mistakes.
“They’re so intimating.” She would never even listen to me anyway.” – You think they are intimidating, but people of real value want nothing more than to help others succeed. This world is full of awesome individuals who live solely for the purpose of inspiring, motivating and pushing others toward achieving their goals and passions.
But in order for them to help you, you need to take that first step, and engage in a conversation.
It will be well worth it…I promise!
When we awake every morning feeling like we have nothing to offer, that our ideas are stupid or that there is no one ready and waiting to listen, we’ve already lost. But when we seek out those who are in positions to help, the world opens up and reveals endless amounts of possibilities.
In today’s society there is a common misconception that success is obtained when one person out spends the other, when the big dog eats the little dog and when you have to cheat in order to win. But after listening to and reading the written messages of many successful entrepreneurs, one four letter word seems to surface like a beacon of hope when struggles seem too heavy for one person to bare…
It’s there. Now all you have to do is ask for it.
P.S. If you need any guidance, advice or just an ear to chew on, I’m the type of person who’s always looking to help.
